Glossary about phonology

 

Phonology:The study of the patter of speech sounds used in a particular language.

 Phonetics:  is the systematic study of speech and the sounds of language.

Phoneme: is the smallest contrastive unit in the sound system of a language.

Vocal folds: a pair of fold at the upper end of the throat whose edges move quickly backwards and forwards and produce sound when air from the lungs moves over them. 

Voiced: Sounds which are produced with this vocal fold vibration.  

Voiceless: Whereas sounds produced without making the vocal cords move. 

Pharynx: is a tube which begins just above the larynx. 

Phonology: the study  of sounds in a particular language generally. 

Velum: the soft Are the top in the mouth.  

Glottal: the thin opening between the vocal cords at the top of the larynx,  that is closed by the epiglottis when you swallow.
